And hearing the overwhelming response from Spaniards that this behavior was not racist.
Makes sense when you realize these are the sons of the Spaniards who came to the new world, took advantage of the natives, accepted all their gifts, then forced them to collect enough gold to avoid having their hands cut off. I will not go into all the gory details- you can read enough in People’s History by Zinn- as to what the Spaniards did to the Arawaks before they genocided them because it is enough to make your blood boil. Race certainly played a dominant role in their treatment of the natives. This of course is the same country that expelled Jews from their land, and also led the inquisitions.
Interesting to see Spain’s economy has declined for the last six quarters, whereas the economies of China, India, and others have grown. China’s economy is already more than double that of Spain; India is set to overtake Spain within 5 years. When Spain stands in the shadows of the people it formerly looked down upon and abused, I wonder what sort of lenience it will receive.
